WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TV AND GOOGLE TV? IS GOOGLE TV AVAILABLE WORLD WIDE?

Now-a-days, internet means Google, and Google means internet. So, Google TV means, Internet TV.

GOOGLE TV

Google has thought, to be involved in developing a device through which internet can be used on television sets. For this it has joined hands with Companies like Sony and Intel. In the process of bringing internet closer, Google is trying to produce a set top box which can be attached to the television sets so that it is possible to search the internet, watch you tube videos, play and download online games and use social networking sites on television sets. Logitech, another technology products company is thought to be taking part in it by producing a small keyboard and a remote control for this device. With this device users can not only watch television programs but also surf internet. Earlier, Apple was involved in the production of technology or device which enables users to download television shows and movies. This new device reportedly has Intel Atom chips and Android OS, open source operating system from Google. It has also done the testing of this device with the help of Dish Network, a pioneer in providing cable network for television sets. It may be released world wide or may be confined to US only.

Faster Chromebooks to leapfrog today's slowpokes

Even for those who buy into cloud computing, the first-generation Chromebook can be painfully pokey. But faster next-gen models are on the way, Google tells CNET.

Because I've got cloud-computing religion, you'd think that Google convincing me to like a Chromebook would be as easy as preaching to the choir.
It's not.
Sundar Pichai, SVP of Chrome
After a few months using Samsung's 3G-equipped Series 5 Chromebook, I can firmly say the first-generation Chromebooks are not for me, for one big reason: sluggish performance.
But there's some good news here for people like me: There are new, faster Chromebooks on the way, Google revealed to me.
"We remain very excited about Chromebooks. We got a lot of positive feedback, and we are really looking forward to the next generation of Chromebooks," said Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Chrome, in an interview yesterday. "We will improve on the dimensions of speed, simplicity, and security."
And there's one other thing. Google makes a big fuss about how Chrome OS, the Chromebook's underlying browser-based operating system, gets steadily better as Google updates Chrome every six weeks. This Chromebook isn't where it needs to be, but it's appreciably better better than when it first arrived.

Activation energy
Whenever I'm using computing devices, which is a lot, a user-interface analog of activation energy is in the forefront of my subconscious thoughts: how low is the barrier to getting things moving? A part of my brain pays attention to the obstacles that stand in my way--the lag before that new browser tab appears, that app launches, that document loads, that machine wakes from sleep--and steers me sharply away from pokey technology.
I'm surrounded by too many choices for electronics. Right now, besides the Chromebook, I use two Macs, two Windows machines, three Android phones, one Android tablet, and an iPad. Over and over, I end up reaching for the anything but the Chromebook unless I consciously decide I need to be trying it. And when I set it aside, I feel inward relief.
Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook
The Chromebook is simply underpowered for my overall needs. Google Docs documents grind open. Scrolling can be an excruciatingly laggy affair. My son, trying to play the Flash-based Crush the Castle 2 game, cried out in exasperation when trying to construct his medieval defenses. Keyboard repeat rates aren't adjustable to let me set them fast enough with only a brief delay before kicking in. When I have more than 15 or 20 tabs open, it seems that old tabs must be reloaded from the server when I switch back to them.

Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook
Google had to start somewhere with Chrome OS, and opting for low power consumption, long battery life, and low prices means that there was really no way to fit the speed-freak needs of somebody like myself.
But without high performance, Google is alienating an important set of techno-savvy people such as developers who help to set the tech agenda.

How to open files without proprietary software in Windows

It can be frustrating to receive an attachment or find a file online that you can't open. Maybe you don't have the latest version of MS Office, or maybe you just don't know what program is required. Open Freely is a great, free tool that lets you peek inside many popular file types. Here's how to use it:
  1. Download and install Open Freely here.
  2. When confronted with a file you can't open, launch Open Freely and click the open icon in the top left, then browse and select your file. (You may want to check the list of supported file types here first.)
  3. Open Freely offers simple editing tools for documents, spreadsheets, and other such files. These should be familiar to most users. They're not as advanced as those you'd find in Office or similar suites, but they're functional.
Step 3: Review and edit document.
Step 3: Review and edit document.
  4. It's also easy to print using Open Freely. Just click the printer icon at the top and you're all set.
That's all there is to it. It's easy to enjoy media files or to review documents even on computers that aren't set up to handle the right file type.

How to start Windows 7 faster

High-performance PC hardware doesn't always deliver the speed users expect. But you probably shouldn't blame the hardware. The slowdown may be due to a software conflict.

One of the greatest challenges PC users face is figuring out why the machines run so slowly. You can easily spend more time trying to fix the problem than the problem causes you to lose in the first place.
Windows 7's built-in diagnostic tools can help you find the source of startup and other performance woes. I've had mixed results with the operating system's troubleshooting utilities, which I described in a post from last June, "Handy Windows 7 utilities you may not know about."
TechRepublic's Greg Shultz explains how to use Windows 7's Event Viewer to root out the source of slow startups. Sandro Villinger of IT Expert Voice goes into even more detail on snooping through Windows 7's performance and troubleshooting utilities to hunt down the causes of startup delays.
Another option is to use Microsoft's free Process Monitor utility to find slow-loading startup items and figure out whether you need the laggards to start automatically. Martin Brinkmann steps you through the process on Ghacks.net.
If you use the Ultimate, Professional, or Enterprise editions of Windows 7, you have access to the Group Policy Editor, which lets you track down startup slowpokes. More information on the diagnostic tools in Group Policy Editor is available on the Guiding Tech Network.
Most likely causes of Win7 startup delays
The first thing most people do to speed up Windows' boot times is to trim the list of programs that start automatically. Microsoft's free Autoruns utility simplifies the process by categorizing the programs that start with Windows. You can set the program to hide Windows' own entries to minimize the chances of unchecking an entry that needs to autostart.
Your PC's slow bootup could be due to a malware infection. Make sure your antivirus definitions are up-to-date and your real-time protection and firewall are active. Then perform a full-system malware scan. To make doubly sure your system isn't infected, scan again with a different antivirus program, such as the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Sometimes the slowdown is caused by your system creating too many restore points. TheMicrosoft Support site describes that problem and offers a hotfix. Another Microsoft hotfixaddresses delays resulting from displays being changed from the default 96 dots per inch.
Unfortunately, the source of your PC's slow start could be relatively obscure, such as a faulty hard-drive power connector (switching the drive to a different power connector solved the problem) or use of a solid-color background (start times improved after using a photo as a background).
Free Windows diagnostic utility shaves seconds off startups
It seems counterintuitive that you can improve your system's performance by adding yet another program. In addition to the time required to download and install the software, there's the chunk of system resources the new program uses itself. That's why I was skeptical of the performance benefits promised by Kingsoft's free PC Doctor, one of which was faster starts.
I tested the program on a 5-year-old PC running Windows 7 Ultimate. During installation, the program offered to install the Maxthon browser--in fact, the option was prechecked. Be sure to uncheck this option to avoid installing more software than you bargained for.
PC Doctor installation routine's option to install unsolicited software
The PC Doctor installer preselects the option to add the Maxthon browser, so uncheck the setting to prevent the unsolicited addition.

How to create hard-drive partitions in Windows

It's likely that your hard drives are all formatted with one large partition.
The major advantage to splitting up individual disks into multiple partitions is to soften the blow when you need to reinstall your OS. This is achieved by putting your OS and applications on one partition and your media on a separate one.
For Windows users, there are several third-party programs that you can download/purchase that will assist you with this process. In reality, none of these are really necessary because Windows comes with a built-in (and well-hidden) disk-management system. Let's get started.

Find the disk manager

Step 1: Open the Start menu and type "disk management" into the search window. Click on the entry that appears labeled Create and format hard-disk partitions.

Create empty space on the hard drive

If didn't build your computer, the chances of having unformatted space is pretty unlikely. If you actually do have unformatted space, or you just bought a new hard drive and are partitioning it, you can skip this part.

How to share Internet from your laptop to smartphone (and other devices)

Many smartphones or other devices do not support the same network configuration that is easily shared from laptop to laptop.
This guide can show you a free way to share your network connection with these devices without also needing to install any third-party software on Windows Vista or 7 (though it's possible on XP too). Keep in mind that this works best when your laptop is connected via a cable. Ultimately, this method is ideal for sharing the Internet connection in a hotel room (many rooms have only one ethernet cable) from your laptop to other devices.
All you'll need in advance, besides a working network connection, is an up-to-date version of the Java Runtime Environment installed. You can check whether you have JRE, or even get the latest version here
Step 1: Open your browser of choice and navigate to www.virtualaccesspoint.com. Note that this page will need to remain open as long as you want to share your connection.

Step 2: Once the page is loaded, a small window will open asking for permission to run an app. This is normal, and you'll need to grant it permission to run.
Step 3: Enter the name for your access point, as well as the desired security key. Click on Turn On Soft AP to create your access point.
