Android device activations hit 3.7 million on Christmas weekend

Google and its Android partners had a lot to cheer about this Christmas.
In a tweet touting the holiday numbers, Google's Android honcho Andy Rubin said 3.7 million Android devices were activated the weekend of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
As Rubin explained in a Google+ post last week, activations refer strictly to the number of new devices (not resold ones) that Google records subscribing to a mobile service.
This news--directly from the mouth of Google--follows yesterday's report from Flurry that Apple iOS and Android devices combined recorded 6.8 million activations on Christmas Day alone. That was a healthy leap from the 2.8 million seen last Christmas.
Flurry didn't break down the numbers per platform, but using some rough extrapolating, the folks at Engadget came up with a fairly even split between the two.
A study out yesterday from Localytics also discovered a huge surge in holiday activations for both IOS and Android, particularly from the U.K., the U.S., and Canada.
The jump in Android activations can be followed just by reading Rubin's tweets over the past year. On December 20, the Google exec tweeted that more than 700,000 devices were being activated each day, up from 500,000 devices in late June and 300,000 in December of 2010.

UniBeast: Install Mac OS X Lion Using an All-In-One Bootable USB Drive

Introducing UniBeast- our new tool to create a bootable USB drive from your Mac App Store purchased copy of Install Mac OS X Lion or Apple Store purchased OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive. This all-in-one bootable USB drive can also be used as a rescue boot drive for system recovery.

UniBeast + MultiBeast is the easiest method to do a clean install of Mac OS X Lion or update any Snow Leopard system. The following guide requires no coding, terminal work, or Mac experience of any kind.

You Will Need

8GB or larger USB Drive
Install Mac OS X Lion Application
OR
OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive
STEP 1: Purchase Mac OS X Lion
The operating system is not free. There are two ways to purchase your copy of Mac OS X Lion. The simplest way is to download the Application from the Mac App Store. Alternately, the OS X Lion USB Thumb is available online at Apple.com or any Apple Store retail location.

STEP 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive Using UniBeast
Take a deep breath and take your time- this is pretty simple, but it's easy to miss things if you rush. Follow each step to the letter.

     1. Insert USB drive
     2. Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
     3. Highlight USB drive in left column
     4. Click Partition tab

Chrome scores a victory in the browser wars

It's just one browser version during one particular week, and only one research firm is making the claim--but according to StatCounter, Google's Chrome 15 is the world's most popular browser.

In the last week of November,StatCounter says, 23.6 percent of the browsers tracked by its global system were Chrome 15. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 accounted for 23.5 percent.
Add up all versions of IE and Chrome and you still get a different story: IE is the most popular browser overall, well ahead of Chrome. StatCounter's numbers still show all versions of IE taking a total of 40.09 percent of the market, vs. 26.31 percent for all versions of Chrome. Firefox is at 25.07 percent, Apple's Safari is at 5.86 percent, and Opera gets 1.91 percent.
Chrome 15's victory isn't hugely meaningful. Google's built-in updating system quietly but insistently auto-updates users to new versions, reducing the number of people who are running old editions of the browser. Microsoft, by contrast, is less pushy. That helps explain why a meaningful number of folks still run the ancient, obsolete, insecure mess known as Internet Explorer 6.
In January, Microsoft plans to use Windows Update's Auto Updates to upgrade recalcitrant Windows users to newer versions of Internet Explorer--IE 8 for Windows XP, and IE 9 for Windows Vista and 7. Given Chrome 15's extremely narrow victory over IE 8 and the massive number of Windows XP PCs in the world, IE 8 presumably has a decent chance at snatching its crown back next month.
The real history-making moment would come if Chrome--or any non-Microsoft browser--overtook IE to become the world's most popular browser, period. (The numbers reported by StatCounter and its rivals vary enough that I wouldn't believe it had happened until every major stats service agreed.)
The last market-leading browser that wasn't IE was Netscape Navigator. When its share crumbled in the 1990s, Internet Explorer gained a monopoly on the market that looked like it would probably be permanent.
By coming pre-installed on Windows, Internet Explorer still gets a huge head start over every other browser on the planet: It's remarkable that the race is as close as it is. I wouldn't reject the possibility of Chrome eventually overtaking IE, though, particularly given how rapidly it's improving and how aggressively Google markets it.
Of course, a few years ago I thought that Firefox also had a shot at surpassing IE . Back in the days when Internet Explorer 6 was the current version of IE, and commanded more than 90 percent of the market, Firefox was downright dazzling. Simply by being wonderful, it quickly racked up millions of users--and forever disproved the depressing conventional wisdom that it was impossible to compete with Windows' default browser.
When Google unveiled Chrome a little over three years ago, Firefox probably lost its chance at taking the top slot. All of a sudden, Chrome was the fresh, innovative alternative browser--and recently, Firefox's share has flatlined, then dipped.
If open-source Firefox had managed to overtake IE, it would have been one of the great stories in tech history: A bunch of volunteer geeks banding together to beat the world's biggest software company. If Chrome takes the lead, it'll be one huge company beating another huge company. For me, at least, the emotional impact wouldn't be the same.
And in a strange way, Microsoft is also a scrappy upstart when it comes to browsers. IE 9, the current version, is downright good, and admirably progressive when it comes to new technologies and standards. (Microsoft does its best work when its products have meaningful competition. Weird, huh?)
So I'm not rooting for any particular browser, and won't take it badly if IE remains the most popular one for years to come. But boy, am I glad that the browser wars--which some once thought were over--show no signs of ending anytime soon.

There you go, it`ll finish up automatically with a bootable USB.

Install OS X Snow Leopard from a USB flash drive

The steps below will guide you through how to Install OS X Snow Leopard from a USB Flash Drive. Alternatively, you can also read these instructions on how to install OS X Lion from a USB Flash Drive.
Apple officially released Snow Leopard a couple years ago and consumers can still find the latest version of OS X at Apple Stores and resellers across the country.
At version 10.6, Snow Leopard, focused more on improving speed and performance than addingnew features to OS X. With the operating system available to customers, individuals are ready for their upgrades.

Installing OS X From a USB Drive

Like other versions of OS X, Snow Leopard can be installed from a USB drive. This is especially beneficial to Macbook Air users looking to install the OS without a DVD drive. To do this, you’ll need to prepare your USB drive with the installation files. Like many of our other Mac Helparticles, the steps listed below worked particularly for Snow Leopard but should also work for installing OS X from USB on Leopard.
The installation files sit at 6.2gb on the Snow Leopard DVD, so you’ll probably need a drive that has at least 8gb available. If you want your installation files to last against the elements, check out this 8 GB Water/Shock Resistant USB flash drive.
After you’ve gotten the correct USB device, connect it to your Mac and prepare it with the Snow Leopard installation files by following these steps:
NOTE:Depending on your flash drive, you may need to follow steps 5 – 7 on installing onto a USB drive to make sure the drive is bootable before you get start. This includes updating the options for the partition so that it is set to a GUID partition. If the USB drive is not bootable you willNOT be able to install from it.
  1. Open Disk Utility and select the Flash Drive
  2. Select the Erase tab on the right and then set Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Name the partition you’ll be creating Snow Leopard or OS X Install so you can keep track of your installation device. After you’ve done this, click the Erase button.

Highlights of ramcharan's racha movie!!

Mega Powerstar Ram Charan's Racha is shaping up very well and the film is said to be having many highlights. Some of the highlights in the film are listed below:

1.       Ram Charan's Characterization - The way in which Ram Charan's character has been etched will remind us the role of Chiranjeevi in Gand Leader. For the first time in his career, Ram Charan will be seen in an entertaining role. It was because of this characterization, Chiru has given his nod to the project even though Sampath Nandi is not a big name in the Industry.

2.    Rs 2 crore fight sequence in China - This action sequence which was shot in the Bamboo Forest is said to be the major highlight of the film. The unit worked really hard in freezing cold for this special sequence.

3.         Ram Charan-Tamanna's Gang Leader remix song - The remixed song of Chiru's super hit 'Vaana Vaana Velluvaye' from Gang Leader has come out really well. As per the unit, this song which was shot on Charan and Tamanna will be many times better than the original.

4.        Charan's dances - Ram Charan who showed glimpses of what he was capable off in previous films is making sure that no stone is unturned to make Racha a complete entertainer. He is coming up with some fabulous dance moves in the film which will get thunderous response after the release.

5. Script - Ram Charan waited for several months for the right script after the disastrous result of 'Orange'. He has listened to over 100 stories before signing Racha and that itself shows how much confidence he has on this project. Remember, Chiru faced the same situation during the time of 'Rikshavodu' and 'Big Boss'. He took a gap of almost 1 year to choose the right script and delivered a blockbuster in the form of 'Hitler'. Hope this sentiment works!!!

Almost 70% of the shooting has been completed and the makers are planning to wrap up the entire talkie part by January. The film is slated to release in the second week of February.
